Born in Monterey CA to an Army father, Heather moved all over the United States and Europe as a child. Her father's side of the family is from Rhode Island and to this day, the New England accent still peeks out from time to time. Her mother's side of the family is from California, where Heather's creative free spirit blossomed and flourished.

After a 24-year career in the Air Force, she settled in Las Vegas with her two children and began her writing career in earnest. Having dealt with low self esteem in her own life, Heather writes and blogs about living "arms wide open" and finding self love and acceptance - her touching and authentic characters each take their own journey to find love within and without.

Her first book, "Sunrise Fires" is a spicy romance set in Las Vegas, California, and Germany. It is the moving story of Jen as she struggles with independence, love, power and sacrifice. Can she find love, serenity, and still be independent?

We all have our reasons to write and these are Heather's:

When I wrote Sunrise Fires, I was only a few years away from the self-doubt and persistent fear that comes from low self-esteem and I wanted to reflect that in my writing.  I’m a fan of romance, particularly erotic romance, so it seemed like the natural leap to express a woman like Jen through a romantic storyline, showing how deeply disruptive self-doubt truly can be to a person’s love life.
By the end of Jen’s trip to Germany, she will likely have infuriated many readers.  It was a risk – a big risk – writing a main character sort of as the unlikable one.  My point was to write someone who is so far lost down that road that even those people who think like her can see its impacts on her life and maybe even see some ways that she should have responded differently.
Jen is a strong woman who needed to work through her own unwillingness to accept how lovable she is, to accept how deserving she is of Ryan’s love.  By the end of the book she has found a new way to think, and maybe she has shown that the tunnel of low-self esteem does have a light at the end.
Today I still write about self love regularly in my blog.  In context with Jen, I would recommend that she first read “Living Arms Wide Open” to help her step away from her defensive emotional crouch.  Then, Bob Marley said it best – so I’d recommend she read “Can You Be Loved” to help her accept Ryan’s love as true and as something she deserves.  Lastly, I would recommend “Know Your Worth” to help keep her from backsliding to a place where she rejects compliments or affection from others.
